August is National Wellness Month! At Myna Snacks, health and mental wellness are at the root of everything we do and the sole purpose for creating Midnight Mini Cookies (other than making a snack that is truly just delicious).
The importance of healthy snacking is at the forefront of wellness discussions now more than ever. A recent snacking report* states that "consumers around the world report a greater emphasis on well-being. In fact, consumers report regularly consuming snacks to meet a variety of perceived needs such as boosting energy (75%), improving mood (74%), and aligning with fitness goals (70%)." Snacks are key to supporting overall wellness but are just one piece to the puzzle of a healthy lifestyle.
That is why at Myna our entire company is afforded a monthly wellness day, in which our employees are free of work to enjoy the activities and hobbies that make them smile inside and out. Here is a look back on how we each celebrated our past wellness day on August 12th. Let it serve as your sign to put the laptop down for a little, go outside, and do something that too makes you smile inside and out.
DARCEY: CEO
"Building a company culture that embraces wellness is a major focus for me. It's important each individual gets to define how health & wellness shows up each day. And then we take time to recognize it! For our wellness day I spent individual time with my boys outdoors. We live in Colorado so taking advantage of the summer before school starts makes me happy!"
JON: CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER
"For my wellness day, I headed out for a longer than usual bike ride along the Schuylkill River Trail, (pronounced SKOO-kill), outside of Philadelphia. Whenever I can ride for a longer period of time, it always brings me back to center, it’s not just physical workout; but a way to reset and recharge.
The “SRT” as we call it, travels along the river through southeastern Pennsylvania. Schuylkill, Dutch for Hidden River, is where the American, Industrial and Environmental Revolutions were born - so it was fitting to ride through Valley Forge National Park and allow my mind to wander about all of the historical significance of the region.
Cycling isn’t just about moving from one place to another; it’s about connecting with yourself and your surroundings. The rhythm of geography forces you to face the physical demands in front of you and to let go of any mental burdens… leading to an unlocked flow of creativity.
My Myna wellness day off was more than just a break from work—it had been a chance to reconnect with myself, to clear my mind, and to return with a fresh outlook. I even took some of our new innovations to trial test and to fuel the 2nd half of my ride home :-)"
DEVIN: SENIOR DIGITAL MANAGER
"The goal for my Wellness day was to take care of myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. I started the day by staying in a bed a little longer than usual and then made my wife and I coffee and breakfast. I had tweaked my back playing basketball recently so I had an opportunity to see the Chiropractor and get adjusted. While there, I saw there was an opening for a massage, so I couldn't turn that down! Later, we took our dog to the dog park to play and got to enjoy a beautiful sunset to end the day. Thanks Myna for the day off and the push to take better care of myself than I sometimes forgot to."
KELSEY: SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
"I am so grateful to work for a company that gives back to their employees in this way! I live in Hawaii so a normal work day starts early for me. For our wellness day, I got a couple extra hours of sleep followed by my favorite things (beach, gym, and iced coffee). An extra day off is a huge game changer for the month and I came into the week feeling relaxed and ready to work hard!"
